What is a fringe perm?
A fringe perm uses perm solution on your bangs only, reshaping the hair to hold curl, wave, or volume without daily heat styling. Your stylist wraps the fringe around small rods, applies the solution, then neutralises to lock the new shape in place.
The result depends on the rod size and wrapping technique. Large rods create a soft inward sweep, medium rods produce airy lift and movement, and a centre-part wrap gives you curtain bangs that frame the face. A Korean fringe perm focuses on natural, effortless movement — never stiff or overly curled.
Because only the fringe is treated, the rest of your hair stays completely untouched. It's a low-commitment way to refresh your look — if you don't love it, the bangs grow out in weeks.
Cold vs digital fringe perm
At Miin, we offer two fringe perm techniques. The right choice depends on your hair type and the look you want.
- Cold fringe perm (from $78+) — uses a room-temperature solution with no heat. Creates a softer, more relaxed curl that looks its best when scrunched damp. Great for wispy, see-through styles. Faster appointment and gentler on the hair.
- Digital fringe perm (from $108+) — uses heated rods for a more defined, structured curl that shows up clearly even when dry. Lasts longer and holds its shape better in humidity. Ideal if you want a polished C-curl or curtain bang shape that stays put all day.
- Not sure? Tell your stylist the look you want. If it's soft and wispy, cold perm. If it's defined and long-lasting, digital perm.
Popular Korean fringe styles
Korean fringe trends focus on airy softness and natural movement. These are the styles our Orchard stylists create most often with a bangs perm:
- See-through bangs perm (air bangs) — thin, wispy bangs with root volume so the forehead peeks through. The signature Korean fringe look. Best achieved with a cold perm for that effortless, barely-there feel.
- Curtain bangs — centre-parted bangs that sweep outward in a soft curve, framing the face on both sides. Works with most face shapes and pairs well with layered cuts.
- C-curl fringe — bangs curl gently inward at the tips, creating a polished, youthful shape. Clean and put-together without looking stiff. A digital perm gives this style the strongest hold.
- S-curl fringe — loose S-shaped waves through the bangs for natural, textured movement. A more relaxed, effortless look.
What to expect during your appointment
A fringe perm is a quick, focused service. Most appointments take 30–60 minutes.
- Consultation — your stylist assesses your fringe (thickness, growth direction, cowlicks) and discusses the look you want. Together you choose cold or digital perm and the rod size.
- Sectioning — the fringe is isolated and the rest of your hair is clipped away.
- Rod wrapping and solution — your stylist wraps the fringe around rods, then applies the perm solution. For digital perm, heated rods are used. For cold perm, the solution processes at room temperature.
- Processing (15–20 min) — the solution reshapes the hair. Your stylist monitors timing based on your hair's texture and condition.
- Neutralising — a neutraliser locks the curl in place. Rods are removed and the fringe is gently rinsed.
- Style and aftercare — your stylist finishes with styling and shows you how to maintain the curl at home.
Who is fringe perm for?
Anyone with bangs — or anyone thinking about getting bangs. Fringe perm works across all hair types and is popular with both women and men.
- Fine, flat bangs that won't hold volume — a fringe perm gives structural lift that lasts
- Straight bangs that fall limp by midday — the curl is set in, so it holds its shape regardless of weather
- Anyone tired of curling their fringe every morning — fringe perm replaces your curling iron routine
- First-time perm clients who want a low-commitment way to try a Korean perm — the fringe is a small area, quick service, and grows out fast
- Men with bangs — textured, styled fringe is one of the most popular Korean men's styles
How long does it last?
A fringe perm lasts 4–6 weeks on average. The curl is chemically set, but regular fringe trims cut away the permed length. Most clients redo it with each fringe trim to keep the shape fresh.
In Singapore's humidity, a fringe perm actually holds up better than heat styling. Curling-ironed bangs tend to drop by midday in 80–90% humidity, but permed curls are set into the hair and stay. Humidity can even add a touch of extra volume, which works in your favour.
The short cycle is actually convenient — fringe perm is quick and affordable, so it fits easily into your regular salon visits as an add-on.
Aftercare and pricing
For the first 48 hours after your fringe perm, avoid washing your hair or pinning your fringe back. Any clips, headbands, or pressure can create kinks in freshly permed hair.
- Wait 48 hours before washing your hair
- Use a sulphate-free shampoo to preserve the perm
- Scrunch with your fingers when damp to reactivate the curl — avoid brushing, which pulls the curl out
- A signature hair treatment every few weeks keeps your fringe healthy and the curl bouncy
- If you want straight, smooth bangs instead, check out fringe rebonding — it solves the opposite problem
Pricing

Most clients book fringe perm as an add-on to a haircut. The cut shapes the fringe, then the perm sets the shape — everything in one visit.
